Valentine’s Loves List
This Valentine’s day I thought I’d do something a little different and talk about my one true love. Make-up.
I have a complicated history with Make-up. I got into it as a preteen because I thought that is what girls were supposed to do. As a rebellious teen I experimented with crazy eyeshadows. In my early 20’s I stopped wearing it, I became anti-make-up and girliness, but in my mid-20s I came back to it, and realize make-up could be something I did for me and only me. From there, a great love affair started.
Since then, I’ve acquired some products that I love, that I always have to have on hand. I’ve compiled a list of these loves in honor of Valentine’s Day.
COVERGIRL Liquid Foundation
It’s only natural that I start from the beginning. This is the first foundation I ever wore, and I wore it because it’s what my older sisters wore. Yet, even as I’ve experimented with other foundations, even more expensive ones, I still come back to this. It matches my skintone perfectly, has great coverage, and is always reasonably priced.
Benefit ‘They’re Real!’ Mascara
When I first got back into make-up, I snatched this mascara up at Sephora on a whim. It’s been nothing but love ever since. It has a very inky consistency that glides over my lashes effortlessly, and the name is fitting because it honestly looks like I’m wearing a pair of falsies when I have it on.
Tutu Lip Exfoliating Gel
Being from Colorado, a place that is incredibly dry, I struggle to keep my lips moist. At any given moment I have about 5 chapsticks on me, and even this can’t always save my lips from drying out and cracking. This super simple solution, with just a dab, takes off the top layer of flaky skin on your lips. Afterward, I lather them up in chapstick and then put on lipstick. It works like a charm.
Make-up Forever HD Translucent Powder
Like a good number of make-up lovers, I get a lot of my make-up advice from drag queens. They were the first to introduce me to the concept and use of translucent powder, and I will never look back. It puts that smooth finishing touch on any face and makes you looks ethereal in photos. I own it in both the pressed and loose powder forms, and honestly I can’t choose which I like more. Just get both.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush
I got this blush as a sample and used it until I was literally scraping the bottom, then had to go out and buy one afterward. This blush not only comes in an array of beautiful colors that last for 12-hours, but they look remarkably natural. I’ve been complimented on my skin and “rosy cheeks” on more than one occasion while wearing this blush.
Too Faced Eyeliner
This is a two-for-one kind of deal because I use both when applying eyeliner. The first is the 3-way Lash Lining Tool. As you can see in the photo, it has 3 tips instead of one, and is designed to get your waterline and the gaps between your eyelashes that regular eyeliners can’t always get to. As someone with long eyelashes, I always struggled with this, and this tool makes it a lot easier. It does take some getting used to, but once you’ve got it, it’s a life saver.
The second is the Perfect Eyes Gel pencil, which goes on SO smooth. The combination of the two makes my eyes pop like nobody’s business.
Etude House Dear Darling Lip Tint
I got this as a gift from a friend, and instantly fell in love. I’m always on the look out for a good lip tint, and this is by far my favorite. It goes on like a thick stain and lasts all day long. It also dries fast and is totally smudge proof. Plus, the color is to die for.
COVERGIRL Star Wars: The Force Awakens Lipstick
I really didn’t expect much from this lipstick, as I mostly got it for the novelty of it. However, I ended up totally loving not only the shade, but the feel and consistency. I’ll be really disappointed when this tube runs out.
So that’s that! The best of the best. Or at least, the loveliest of the loves. What are your Make-up loves?
